Analyst Checklist Report: Using Streaming Analytics for Continuous Operational Intelligence

According to The Data Warehouse Institute's (TDWI) 2013 survey on managing Big Data, roughly half of organizations surveyed are using streaming data generated frequently or continuously from sensors, machines, geospatial devices, and Web servers. However, most of these organizations are merely capturing and storing this streamed data for later offline analysis, whereas they need to mature by utilizing real-time practices and technologies, enabling them to analyze streaming data on-the-fly and take immediate action for the highest business value.

The growing consensus is that streaming analytics is the most direct path to business value drawn from new forms of Big Data. New vendor tools are reengineering existing analytic techniques and creating new analytic methods to operate on stored and streaming data.

This TDWI Checklist Report examines user best practices and vendor tool functions for analyzing streaming data, including complementing existing BI/DW infrastructures.
